no

that is the standard response to something they do not handle.

they handle account/running the game problems not content suggestions.

the programmers said over a year ago it is a game engine/tech issue and not only will not be done but cannot be done without major work they are putting to better use on new content

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time out to write us about which background you would like for your login screen. We would ask that you please share your idea on one of our various fansite forums: http://www.guildwars.com/community/fansites/ as members of our team read these forums daily, and putting the ideas out there for others to comment on allows us to judge feedback on a greater scale. We hope this helps!

Agree with Loviatar. That is the automated response. They didn't even read your e-mail.

QFT. Amazing idea, but it will never happen. I don't mean to bring everyone down with pessimism, but I'm just losing a lot of faith here, and it all started with the HoM botch. They're really gearing all of their resources on GW2, and keeping us "sated" with Izzy-nerfs.

the head programmer explained over a year ago when they changed it the first time.

it is a major not programming issue so forget it.

the HOM has not been botched as what Anet said is what was delivered.

the minipets were straightened out fast.

all the rest was hearsay that became fact cuz i herd it somewhere.

Anet stated some GWEN weapons not my favorite green/rare/torment/etc so no botch there

Anet said specific SETS of armot not mix and match so no botch there

Anet said no storing of items in the monument so no botch there

Anet said the HOM would be used to unlock items to a linked GW2 account so we wait to see if it works or not.

Anet said each character would have their own HOM so no botch that it is not account based instead of character based.

Your forgotting...
A) Adding destroyer weapons to the HoM at the time of release would cause them to be customized without the +20% damage bonus (since fixed).
B) Bugs with the incorrect mask being displayed with armor
C) Bugs with armor appearing as the wrong color
D) Being character, rather then account based, while not a bug, is still a poor bit of implimentation

Several things in the HoM were poorly tested. I agree with your basic premiss that most of the complaining came from people's high expectations. But still, the HoM was the BIG selling point of GW:EN, and it should have been flawlessly implimented instead of having multiple bugs at launch.

personal opinion here but HOM was never a major anything except to a small hardcore group where it was everything.

2 examples

1. PCGamer article gives it a small box in a 10 page article as a feature that is unplayable and has no effect on playing the game

2. the two part 16 minute e3 video presentation has the HOM in the last minute+ of part 2. all the rest was on what it was all about which was GWEN not a dormant feature which will not be activated until GW2 and it has a linked account.

HOM is a meaningless spot on the map until GW2 comes out and was advertised as a nice feature for GW1 players like an easter egg i was there type thing and not the main feature

That doesn't keep it from being an awesome feature idea, but like I said, it's not going to happen.

...off-topic rambling...
I'm not going to get in an OT war here. Go post junk like this in one of the many HoM threads.

Back on topic, switching character selection screens seems like something the programmers should have thought of a very long time ago. Does anyone know if there were technical reasons provided, or was it just "impossible"?

jeff strain stated major conflicts due to the graphics upgrade and ths major change needed for panning the camers over all the added characters instead of the static original 4 character screen in whuch the chosen character moved to you.

straight tech issue as if it were simple they usually give it to us

Well, Gaile can say alot, but:

1. They just made a GWEN background, so i believe that they can use that code incase its too hard to update the old ones and use thesame skin.....

2. They can at least try to keep GW1 attractive, this should be able to be done... "impossible" doesnt excist in the pc world....

hmmm alright... but i still think that he can do it but just doesnt want to put the work in it..... and what is so different between the factions, NF and GWEN background... they seem to be based on the similar engine while the campfire is diffferent... cant we at least have these 3?

Yeah in my opinion it's more like they're lazy about it instead of actually not being able to do it.

I wish my character selection screen could be back to the prophecies way

Factions was nice too

But we don't need the campfire, it would be nice, but most of uf just ask for the background and scenario.

Just the same layout like now:
- One character.
- 4..26 portraits
- Character info.
- GW store and extra info on special offers in shop.
- Lower bar of buttons.

You keep that, and change the background and the scenario.
Prophecies: One single character by the campfire, Seared Ascalon around.
Factions: One single character on top of a rock, the Shing Jea sea around.
Nightfall: One single character on top of a rock, the Istani sea around.
Eye of the North: One single character on top of a mountain, the shiverpeaks around.

Just that.
I just hope they didn't deleted the old files...

I like GW:EN's, but there's only so long I can look at snow before I want to see a different season.

The Factions one was, in my opinion, the best of the four. I hope someday ANet implements this, so that I can see it again.

I HATE the eye background, when I take screenshots everything looks blue. I liked the nightfall one, and the factions one wasnt bad either (I can understand why they would not be able to re-implement the campfire, my 27 toons wouldnt fit on the screen, but the other backgrounds were around when they implemented extra character slots...and who cares about the store link?).
Bring back the other backgrounds!!!
